Mayor says TransAlta has been responsive and transparent, no injuries were reported.
An investigation is underway into how a blade from a wind turbine on Wolfe Island snapped off.
The blade fell 260 feet down to the ground in a vast, empty field located off Baseline Rd between Lines 4 and 5 last Tuesday.
TransAlta, the company that operates the wind farm, told KingstonDaily.ca in an email that the turbines were immediately shut down after the incident. They say there were no injuries and no damage to neighbouring properties.
They say they will be conducting inspections and technical assessments of the turbines, and determining the cause of the failure.
Frontenacs Islands Mayor Jusy Greenwood-Speers says she went out to the site to check the damage for herself.
She says this is the first time that such an incident has happened since the turbines were first installed on Wolfe Island in 2009.
Greenwood-Speers says she likes the fact that TransAlta has been transparent in their reporting and has been getting regular updates on the status.
There is no timeline as to when the wind turbines will be back up and running.
