Why strangers are knocking on doors across Kingston to support local hospitals

UHKF campaign aims to recruit hundreds of monthly donors to strengthen regional health care.

More residents in Kingston are being invited to support local health care through a new community fundraising campaign.

University Hospitals Kingston Foundation launched the initiative on March 23, building on earlier efforts that saw more than 100 people sign up as monthly donors.

Working with GlobalFaces Direct, trained canvassers are now visiting neighbourhoods to encourage over 500 more residents to join.

Officials say monthly donations help fund critical equipment, patient care tools and innovative programs not fully covered by government funding.

Lori Faggiani says the early response shows strong community support for protecting local hospitals.

The funds will benefit Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Providence Care, which serve more than 650,000 people across southeastern Ontario.

The campaign aims to grow its base to more than 750 monthly donors, helping ensure continued access to care close to home.
