Caution still urged near fast flowing water
Cataraqui Conservation has downgraded its Flood Watch to a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety for inland lakes and streams in the region. The change comes after improving conditions throughout the watershed, with stream flows returning to normal ranges.
While no flooding is expected, Cataraqui Conservation is urging caution due to high flows in some watercourses, particularly the Gananoque River, and discharge through dams. Forecasted rainfall of 9 to 12 mm on April 18-19, and additional rain later in the month, is expected to be manageable without causing flooding. However, creeks and lakes remain dangerous, and water safety remains a concern. The public is advised to avoid dams and fast-flowing water, respect all warning signs, and stay clear of water's edge, especially in slippery areas.
The Watershed Condition Statement will remain in effect until April 30, 2025, with updates provided as necessary.
