Urban Outfitters exit leaves downtown Kingston landmark empty after nearly 20 years

Closure at 207 Princess St. puts massive historic retail space up for sale.

A large and historic retail building in downtown Kingston is now sitting vacant after the closure of Urban Outfitters.

The popular clothing chain officially closed its doors at 207 Princess Street on Jan. 22, 2026, ending an 18-year run in the city’s core. Thursday marked the store’s final day of operation.

The two-floor building features a unique, multi-level layout rarely seen in downtown retail spaces. The property is now listed for sale, adding another empty storefront to the busy Princess Street corridor.

Urban Outfitters moved into the location in 2008, after the Royal Bank of Canada relocated its branch elsewhere downtown. Since then, the store has been known for its hip, trend-focused clothing and lifestyle items, drawing students and shoppers for nearly two decades.

While the Kingston location has closed, Urban Outfitters is not leaving Canada entirely. The company’s online store remains active.

The closure marks another shift in Kingston’s downtown retail landscape, as questions remain about what will come next for the prominent space.
