The OPP auxiliary unit did a "Lock It or Lost It" campaign last week.
On Thursday, August 7, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Auxiliary Unit carried out a “Lock It or Lose It” safety campaign in local parks across the region.
During the campaign, officers checked 800 parked vehicles. They found 37 cars were left unlocked, 17 had windows rolled down, and another 17 had valuables left in plain sight.
These results show how easily vehicles can become targets for opportunistic thieves. The OPP reminds everyone to always lock their vehicles, roll up all windows, and hide any valuable items before leaving their car.
The “Lock It or Lose It” campaign is part of a larger effort to raise awareness about crime prevention and encourage safe habits in the community.
Police thank the OPP Auxiliary Unit for their ongoing work to help reduce theft and keep neighbourhoods safe across Ontario.
Safety starts with simple steps—lock it, or lose it.
