SIU investigating OPP response in armed standoff in Gananoque

OPP were called after a man barricaded himself inside a home on Friday.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident in Gananoque after police discharged Anti-Riot Weapon Enfields (ARWENs) at a 42-year-old man on Friday.

Gananoque Police were called to the area of Second Street and Victoria Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on August 15 to investigate a disturbance. When officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside a residence. The scene was contained, and OPP officers were called to assist.

Shortly before midnight, OPP officers entered the residence and encountered the man, who was armed with edged weapons. Two officers discharged their ARWENs, and a police canine unit was also deployed.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
