Single mother calls for school busing changes after child denied transportation

The woman asked STEO for an exemption due to her medical condition but was denied.

An Eastern Ontario single mother is calling for changes to school transportation eligibility after her six-year-old was denied busing despite a long walk to school.

Gloria Poore says her chronic pain and childcare responsibilities make the daily journey difficult.

She is also worried about winter sidewalk conditions in her neighbourhood.

Since June, Poore says she has been urging Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario (STEO) to consider exemptions for parents with disabilities and other families facing transportation barriers.

She says STEO had her fill out some forms in late August, but her exemption request was denied.

Kingston Daily has reached out to STEO for comment.
