New garbage carts rolling into Kingston this July.
Starting July 1, Kingston will begin switching to a new cart-based waste collection system in some neighbourhoods.
Residents in parts of north, east, and west Kingston will receive two 120-litre carts — one for garbage and one for organics — over the next few weeks.
Each cart holds about two bags. There’s no weight limit, but lids must close fully. Carts don’t need to be full to be placed at the curb and remain City property.
To see if your address is part of the first rollout, visit CityofKingston.ca/CartCollection and check the interactive map.
Blue and grey boxes will not be replaced, as the City will no longer manage recycling starting July 1. Learn more about that at CityofKingston.ca/Recycle.
The full transition will take several years, with most areas using carts by 2030.
