Someone replace a woman's gold necklace with a fake one.
Kingston Police are warning residents to be careful after a distraction-style theft in a west-end parking lot on October 25th.
Around 12:30 p.m., an elderly person was approached by a man and woman who asked for directions. As the victim tried to help, one suspect quietly took a real gold necklace from the victim’s neck. The suspect then replaced it with a cheap fake necklace without the victim noticing.
Police say the suspects were of Middle Eastern descent and were seen driving a grey sedan. They fear similar cases could happen again.
Officers are reminding people not to engage with anyone trying to sell or offer jewelry or other goods in parking lots. They say no one should allow strangers to touch them or place items on their body. Police also warn the public to keep personal space and stay alert.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 Ext. 0 or file a report online at the police website.
