The outage during the early morning hours, no cause has been determined.
The Ontario Provincial Police say the province’s 9-1-1 system has largely stabilized following intermittent outages reported early Thursday.
The OPP says its Provincial Communications Centres across Ontario are once again receiving and processing 9-1-1 calls.
The outages were first reported at about 4 a.m., prompting police to direct people requiring an emergency police response to the OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
The OPP says that line remained fully operational throughout the disruption and officers continued responding to calls for service.
Police say intermittent disruptions may still occur. Anyone unable to reach the OPP through 9-1-1 is asked to use their non-emergency number instead. People living outside of OPP-policed communities can use the non-emergency number for their local police service.
The OPP is also reminding the public not to call 9-1-1 simply to test whether the system is working.
Police thanked telecommunications providers for expediting the restoration of 9-1-1 service.
