Kingston Fire & Rescue is receiving $25,000 through the initiative.
The Ontario government is investing more than $32 million in new mental-health supports for police, firefighters, paramedics, correctional workers and others who keep communities safe, including those serving Kingston. The Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel program will offer specialized services aimed at the unique pressures first responders face.
Solicitor General Michael Kerzner said the province is committed to backing the people who protect Ontario every day. The program will include a new web portal with access to internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy, peer-support tools and trauma-informed services. A 24/7 call line will also be added.
Funding will support grants to help employers cover the cost of mental-health programs. Kingston Fire & Rescue is receiving $25,000 through the initiative.
The program will also launch an Anti-Stigma Strategy to encourage workers to seek help when they need it. The rollout will begin in phases, with grant applications opening in early 2025.
