Official list of candidates running in Kingston's municipal election is out

A total of 36 people have filed for city council including four for mayor, two will return to council after going unopposed.

The candidates running in this year's municipal election in Kingston is officially set.

People had until last Friday to file their nomination papers to be on the ballot for the October 26 vote. The City Clerk released the certified list on Monday.

There will be 34 candidates running for the 11 seats available, four are running to become mayor including incumbent Bryan Paterson. Two candidates, incumbents Vincent Cinanni (Williamville) and Don Amos (Portsmouth), were acclaimed as there were no one others running against them in their respective districts.

Two districts will be electing new councillors. Conny Glenn (Sydenham) is running for mayor while Gary Oosterhof (Countryside) is not seeking re-election.

For school board trustees, there are five Kingston seats available in the Limestone District School Board, four in the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and one each in the French public and catholic boards.

There are 18 candidates runnings for school board trustee, two of them were acclaimed: Jennifer King (Lakeside and Trillium - LDSB) and Louise Dorsett (Electoral Zone 1 - Le Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est).
