Tourism Kingston announced the Garry McColman Volunteer of the Year Award.
Tourism Kingston is unveiling a new award and it's being named after a longtime volunteer and broadcaster.
The new award will be called the Garry McColman Volunteer of the Year Award.
McColman says the naming of the award in his honour was quite a surprise.
He thanks a lot of people who have helped him organize many of the sporting events in Kingston.
McColman, also known as Big G, one half of the morning show duo Big G and Matty on New Country 98.9, was recently nominated for Sport Tourism Volunteer of the Year by Sport Tourism Canada.
Alex Elliott, Managing Director of Sales at Tourism Kingston, says McColman's tireless work in the community is the reason the award is being named after him.
The award will be given annually by Tourism Kingston at their annual general meeting.
McColman says one outstanding nominee will be chosen each year.
Elliott says they are looking for nominees
The winner will be announced sometime in April. The recipient will officially receive the award at Tourism Kingston's annual general meeting at Fort Henry on April 30.
