An official ceremony took place on Wednesday.
The City of Kingston have officially unveiled two new crosswalks dedicated to Canadian military veterans.
The crosswalks are located at the intersection of Ontario St. and Lower Union St. near the Great Lakes Museum.
One crosswalk is on the east side of the intersection going across Ontario, the other is on the south end in front of the entrance to the museum parking lot.
A number of active and retired military members, city officials, and residents were on hand for Wednesday's official ceremony.
Mayor Bryan Paterson says it is a great way to honour Canadians who served in the military.
The crosswalks were the brainchild of two former Canadian military members: Retired Lieutenant Colonel Perry Metaxas and Retired Major Chris Catry.
Catry tells us how the idea of installing a crosswalk to honour military veterans came to be.
Metaxas says they wouldn't have been able to get the project off the ground without the help from city staff.
Catry says the crosswalks were placed in an ideal location of the city near the Navy Memorial Park.
With a new memorial dedicated to fallen Canadian soldiers and the Great War Memorial located nearby, Paterson says the area has become a place to honour Canada's military history.
