Some Queen's University students will be getting financial help thanks to a large donation.
The post-secondary institution recently received an endowed gift of $25 million from an anonymous donor, a graduate of Queen's.
In a news release, the donor says the money is from their multigenerational family foundation. They recall the financial challenges they faced as a student and wanted to make that path easier for others.
The money will be used to form the Ann Baker Tuition Award. Up to 21 students will be able to receive the award worth between $10,000 and $18,000 annually to help them overcome financial barriers.
The award is focused on students from Eastern Ontario and it is renewable for up to three additional years.
The university said the $25-million gift is the largest single donation that they have received.
