
There will also be street and parking restrictions this weekend.
Some measures are being put in place to ensure a safe return to school for post-secondary students in Kingston.
The City announced that starting this Thursday at 11:59 pm, the University District Safety Initiative (UDSI) will be in effect.
There will be an increased presence by Kingston Police and By-Law Enforcement in the university district to mitigate and discourage large unsanctioned gatherings and disruptive behaviour.
The Gord Downie Pier and Breakwater Park will both be closed to the public between 8 pm and 6 am the following day.
UDSI will remain in effect until Sept. 7 at 11:59 pm.
There will also be overnight parking restrictions in place from Friday at 4pm to Saturday at 5 pm during student move-in:
Albert Street, between Queen’s Crescent to King Street
Stuart Street, between University and Albert
Collingwood Street, between King Street and Albert Street
Bader Lane
Queen’s Crescent
Earl Street, between Frontenac Street and Alfred Street
St. Lawrence Avenue, East Side
King Street, from Lower University Avenue to Beverley Street
On-street parking will not permitted this Saturday between 7 am and 5 pm on:
Arch at Union Street
George Street at Stuart Street
O’Kill Street at George Street
Several streets will also be temporarily designated one-way on Saturday from 7 am to 5 pm:
Albert Street, southbound between Union Street and King Street
Queen’s Crescent, westbound from Albert to Collingwood Street
Bader Lane, westbound
Stuart Street, westbound between University Avenue and Albert Street
St. Lawrence Avenue, southbound from Stuart Street to King Street
Collingwood Street, southbound from Queen’s Crescent to King Street
University Ave, southbound from Union Street to Stuart Street
