Early intervention can significantly improve future outcomes for children.
May is recognized as Speech and Hearing Month in Canada, a time to raise awareness about the importance of early communication development.
The Language Express Preschool Speech and Language Program encourages parents to check if babies, toddlers, and preschoolers are on track with their language development. Early intervention can significantly improve future outcomes for children.
The program offers a free online Communication Checkup, which screens for speech, language, and global development for children from birth to four years old. Parents can complete the checkup on the Language Express website, and make referrals online or by phone at 1-888-503-8885.
Language Express provides speech and language assessments and therapy for children in Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville counties. Services are available from birth until school entry, with children needing a referral by September 1st of the year they start school.
For families concerned about hearing, the Southeast Infant Hearing Program offers hearing testing and can be contacted at 1-855-544-3400, ext. 23175. Early intervention is crucial for a child’s success, so it’s important not to delay seeking help.
