Power outages and hazardous conditions possible
A Freezing Rain Warning is in effect for Kingston - Odessa - Frontenac Islands, with a major ice storm expected this weekend. Freezing rain will begin this evening, with 10 to 20 mm of ice expected, and amounts over 25 mm possible. The heaviest freezing rain is forecast to hit overnight into Saturday morning, causing widespread power outages and slippery conditions.
Freezing rain will change to rain on Sunday as temperatures rise above freezing. Snow or rain may precede the freezing rain tonight. Some areas could experience lighter freezing rain Saturday.
Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break, creating additional hazards.
Residents are urged to take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas and consider delaying non-essential travel. Public Safety Canada recommends preparing an emergency kit with essential supplies. For more information on emergency preparedness, visit getprepared.gc.ca.
