Stats Canada reported around 858,900 adults in 2024 were affected by sleep apnea.
According to Stats Canada, 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended for adults 18-64, but that can be hard to accomplish due to symptoms of sleep apnea.
This is a disorder where the sleep is interrupted by pauses in breathing, and the sleeper must wake up briefly to resume breathing. In most cases, the sleeper doesn't realize they are waking up.
Since this happens to be a reality for me, I just returned from an overnight sleep study at the MedSleep Clinic in Napanee to find out what's going on while I'm sleeping and to ultimately find out whether or not I have sleep apnea.
Dev, the Sleep Technologist who cared for me talks about why people come in for the sleep study.
Around 27 wires are put on the sleeper before the recording takes place to track movements and what's going on in the brain while sleeping.
He then explains how I did during my first sleep study.

Lastly, before anyone can go for a sleep study, a referral is required.
I look forward to my follow up appointment in September.
