A ceremony will take place this Wednesday at Lower Union and Ontario Streets.
Two new Veterans Commemorative Crosswalks are being installed in downtown Kingston, offering a bold reminder of the sacrifices made by Canada’s military veterans.
The City says the crosswalks at Lower Union and Ontario Streets will feature a stylized maple leaf and the image of a soldier to honour all who served.
Mayor Bryan Paterson says Kingston is joining communities across the country that use painted crosswalks as a tribute to veterans. He adds that strong community support helped bring the project forward ahead of Remembrance Day.
The idea began in late 2024 when retired veterans Lieutenant Colonel Perry Metaxas and Major Chris Catry proposed the project to the City. Staff then worked with Kingston’s veteran and military community to choose the design and location.
An unveiling ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 29th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Road closures on Ontario and Lower Union Streets will be in place during the event.
