Officials say most celebrations remained safe despite nuisance party on Aberdeen St.
Kingston police say most St. Patrick’s Day celebrations this year were safe, despite one large gathering being shut down.
Police thanked partner agencies, including the City of Kingston, Kingston Fire and Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics and the Ontario Provincial Police, for their support during the busy weekend.
Large crowds of students and residents gathered across the city, with most celebrating responsibly and following rules.
Aberdeen Street was declared a nuisance party around 2:30 p.m. due to safety concerns linked to the crowd size. The area was cleared within an hour, and the declaration was lifted by 3:30 p.m.
Police say four Provincial Offence Notices were issued and five people were arrested under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
Police Chief Adam MacIntosh says the day showed strong cooperation between officers, Queen’s University and students, helping keep the celebrations safe and under control.
