The University District Safety Initiative will be in effect starting this Friday.
Just about everyone in the university district in Kingston will being going green for St. Patrick's Day.
And with that, the City is announcing that their University District Safety Initiative (UDSI) will be in effect from Fri Mar 13 at 12 a.m. until Wed Mar 18 at 6 a.m.
There will be an increase in bylaw officers and police officers patrolling the university district during that period.
They want people celebrating in a responsible manner, one that ensures everyone gets home safe.
The City has posted a list of fines for the following offenses:
- Host, conduct or sponsor a nuisance party: $2,000
- Fail to comply with an order to leave premises: $500
- Use a closed highway: $500
- Noise bylaw offences – Various: $100-$200
- Fail to comply with signs (Parks): $200
In addition, there will be parking restrictions in effect between Saturday, March 14 at 1 a.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 7 a.m. at the following locations:
- Division St. from Johnson St. to Earl St.
- William St. from University Ave. to Division St.
- Earl St. from University Ave. to Division St.
They say cars parked in the restricted area will be towed in order to keep the roadway cleared for emergency vehicles.
