A new proposal would increase the number of community members and focus on direct representation from diverse groups.
The Kingston Police Service Board is taking new steps to build trust and improve safety for everyone in the city.
At its June 19 meeting, the board will review two major updates tied to its 2023–2026 Strategic Plan.
The first is the return of the Citizens Police Academy, a hands-on program that helps residents understand how local police work. The spring session was well received, and more sessions are planned.
The second update involves changes to the Diversity Plan Working Group. A new proposal would increase the number of community members and focus on direct representation from diverse groups. These include Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those from lower-income backgrounds.
The goal is to ensure the committee better reflects the people of Kingston. Both initiatives aim to build stronger relationships between police and the public through education, inclusion, and open communication.
