The city holds the top spot for the sixth year in a row.
Kingston has once again been named the best small city in Canada for startups, holding the top spot for the sixth year in a row.
In StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2025, released May 20, Kingston ranked #9 overall in Canada and #178 globally — climbing one spot from last year. It’s one of only two small cities to crack Canada’s top ten.
The report ranks over 1,400 cities worldwide and highlights Kingston’s strong performance in cleantech, health innovation, and sustainable manufacturing. Kingston ranked #8 globally in cleantech and is the #4 small city worldwide for energy and environment.
Mayor Bryan Paterson says the recognition shows Kingston’s growing global impact.
Kingston Economic Development CEO Donna Gillespie says the results reflect the city’s focus on supporting sustainable innovation.
Local startup manager Norman Musengimana credits Kingston’s passionate entrepreneurs and strong support networks for the city’s ongoing success.
