Bryan Paterson highlights priorities for Kingston, including supportive housing and need for more homes.
The mayor of Kingston says he’s watching closely to see how Ontario’s latest provincial budget will translate into local investments.
Bryan Paterson said one of the biggest questions is whether funding will come through for a long-awaited hospital project in the city.
Paterson says securing provincial support for hospital infrastructure remains a key priority as demand for care continues to grow in the region.
He also pointed to the ongoing need for supportive housing, calling it a critical piece of the broader housing and homelessness challenge facing Kingston.
Paterson says investments in supportive housing can help address pressures on shelters and the health-care system, while providing more stable options for vulnerable residents.
The mayor also addressed recently announced HST measures tied to housing, saying more needs to be done to boost supply.
He says while tax changes may help, increasing the number of homes being built will be essential to improving affordability in Kingston.
Paterson says the city will continue to advocate for funding and policies that reflect Kingston’s growing needs as details of the provincial budget roll out.
