Kingston man among three charged with murder of missing Smiths Falls resident

34-year-old Joshua Belfiori was arrested on Wednesday.

A Kingston man is one of three people charged with first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance and death of Smiths Falls resident Robbie Thomson, who was reported missing in October 2023.

Police say Thomson’s body has not been found, but evidence indicates he was the victim of a homicide.

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit, Smiths Falls Police Service, and specialized OPP units made arrests in both Montague Township and Kingston, with assistance from Kingston Police.

Charged with one count each of first-degree murder are Joshua Belfiori, 34, of Kingston, Christopher Fenton, 48, and Erin Mackie, 40, both of Montague Township.

The three remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in Perth court on Thursday, October 30 for bail hearings.

OPP spokesman Bill Dickson couldn't dive deep into when police began to suspect multiple people were involved.

Dickson says they worked closely with the Smiths Falls Police Service, who originally led the investigation before handing it over to the OPP, since the early stages of the investigation.

Police say residents may notice a significant police presence at a home on Kelly Jordan Road, northeast of Smiths Falls, as the investigation continues. Authorities add there is no risk to public safety.

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 1-855-677-4636, or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
