$5,000 and an Alienware gaming laptop is going to the Coyote 1000 robotics team.
A high school robotics team in Kingston is receiving a grant.
The École Secondaire Publique Mille-Îles Coyote 1000 team is getting $5,000 plus and an Alienware gaming laptop from Best Buy Canada.
The grant will allow the school to purchase materials and equipment to compete at the highest level.
In a news release from Best Buy Canada, this year’s winning schools and teams represent a diverse cross-section of Canada, each demonstrating resilience, creativity, and a commitment to building brighter futures through technology.
It goes on to say that technology plays a critical role in how students learn, collaborate, and prepare for the future.
École Secondaire Publique Mille-Îles is one of 18 secondary schools and robotics teams in Canada that received a share of $150,000 in grants. The school was in the Teen Tech Teams category.
They were the only school named from Eastern Ontario and one of four in the province.
Winners were selected by a panel that reviews the applications. They look at several criteria, including overall impact, opportunity and technological benefits, feasibility, and overall quality of the application.
Scores are combined to identify a short list of top candidates, which then receive a final review. They say the biggest driver is whether the grant will make a meaningful, lasting difference for students.
