Overnight shelter will stay open until Feb. 2 to help people stay warm and safe.
The City of Kingston has extended operations at the overnight warming centre at the Artillery Park Aquatics Centre as cold, wintry weather continues.
The warming centre will remain open nightly from 9 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. until the morning of Monday, Feb. 2, 2026. City officials say the extension is meant to support people experiencing homelessness during a period of extreme cold.
The service is part of Kingston’s Winter Services Response Plan for 2025–2026, which provides additional overnight options when temperatures drop to dangerous levels.
The city thanked Home Base Housing, emergency shelter teams, sector agencies, community members and staff from Housing and Social Services and Recreation and Leisure Services for their continued support.
Officials say the coordinated effort helps ensure vulnerable residents have a safe, warm place to go during harsh winter conditions.
