Kingston corrections officer dies by suicide after alleged workplace bullying

Brad Gleeson worked at Joyceville Institution for 16 years.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is investigating after a longtime Kingston corrections officer died by suicide.

The Kingston Whig-Standard reports that Bradley Gleeson, who worked at Joyceville Institution for 16 years, took his life in early April. His family says he faced years of bullying and harassment on the job.

Gleeson’s mother, Denise Ducette, called him a caring man and devoted father. She said she was shocked to learn the full extent of his suffering.

Friends say he was targeted with cruel memes, abusive locker notes, and even human feces. He was often assigned posts without backup and ignored by coworkers for entire shifts.

Harassment reportedly worsened after he used COVID-19 leave for health reasons. Friends say he chose not to transfer, fearing the bullying would follow him.

CSC has seized phones and confirmed an internal investigation is underway. It says it takes staff safety seriously and has zero tolerance for harassment.
