Clean-up following the storm continues
Emergency crews were busy over the weekend as the ice storm caused dangerous road conditions and widespread damage.
Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to over 50 reports of downed and arcing wires, along with many other service calls.
Frontenac OPP reported 12 collisions on Highway 401 in the Kingston area within two hours on Saturday morning. Several vehicles slid into ditches and the median, with minor injuries reported.
Just before 10:30 a.m., a tractor-trailer carrying refined sugar rolled over west of Gardiners Road due to shifting cargo. Police closed one lane for cleanup. By 1 p.m., the truck was moved off the road, with towing delayed until conditions improved.
City crews are continuing to work to clear fallen trees and branches from roads after the ice storm. Public Works staff are prioritizing safety before full cleanup begins, which could take weeks. Residents should avoid downed trees and report public hazards. You can report public obstructions at 613-546-0000.
Private property owners must arrange their own tree removal.
