OPP investigating, welcomes tips
Police are investigating after human remains were found in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory on Saturday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m. on May 17, officers from the Lennox and Addington OPP were called to an area near Highway 49, between Old Highway 2 and Lower Slash Road. The remains appear to have been there for a long time.
The investigation is in its early stages. The OPP’s Forensic Identification Services, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are all helping with the case.
As of this morning (Tuesday), OPP Media Relations Coordinator Bill Dickson shared with KingstonDaily.ca that they are "awaiting the postmortem results, which should help us determine the deceased individual’s identity and potentially a cause of death."
Police say there is no risk to public safety, but residents can expect to see more officers in the area.
