Huge turnout as Inclusive Fun Fair raises $30K for accessible playground in Kingston

The hope is next year’s event will mark the grand opening of the inclusive park.

The second annual Inclusive Fun Fair drew more than 1,000 people to Shannon Park on Saturday, June 7, raising over $30,000 for the Inclusive Play Project.

The event was free, fully accessible, and focused on fun for all ages. Families enjoyed live music, a barbecue, an interactive kid zone, artisan vendors, and a photo booth. Over 40 local agencies hosted games and activities throughout the day.

The Inclusive Play Project is a partnership between the City of Kingston and the Rotary Clubs of Kingston, Kingston-Frontenac, Cataraqui, and Napanee.

Organizers say the event was a huge success. Rachel Doornekamp, an occupational therapist and recent City of Kingston Accessibility Award winner, has led the initiative for several years and was thrilled with the turnout.

She hopes next year’s event will mark the grand opening of the inclusive park.
