Lee Spafford was out delivering packages when he spotted a burning home and stopped to rescue an elderly woman.
The City of Kingston is recognizing Lee Spafford's heroic efforts.
The UPS delivery driver received a certificate of commendation on Thursday for helping rescue an elderly woman from a burning home.
Mayor Bryan Paterson presented Spafford with the certificate in a presentation at city hall.
Spafford says being recognized as a hero is not what he is paid to do and it is a bit overwhelmed by the attention he has received.
Spafford was out on delivery the afternoon of May 14 when he noticed smoke coming from a home on Dolshire Street.
His instincts followed him to the home where he then saw flames bursting out.
With the aid of a passerby, Spafford went inside and helped bring the 90-year-old resident to safety.
He says he has since spoken to the woman's family and they are thankful for his quick actions.
Kingston Fire Chief Monique Blair and UPS' V-P of East Canada Operations Doug Taylor were also on hand for the presentation.
Taylor says what Spafford did was incredible.
Taylor says Spafford's actions speaks to the training every UPS driver receives.
Spafford continues to deliver packages in the Kingston area.
He says having people stop you along the way is something he is still getting used to.
