Glass discovery forces Culligan Water Park to close early for the season

The park was initially set to close for the season on Sept. 17.

Culligan Water Park in Kingston has been forced to close early for the season after staff discovered broken glass in the deep end of the pool on Saturday afternoon.

The glass was spotted on Sept. 6, and while no breakage was seen on the pool deck, staff immediately shut down the facility. Cleanup began using mechanical methods, but as of Monday, small fragments were still being recovered, making swimming unsafe.

City staff said the pool must be drained and dried before it can be properly vacuumed. Since the park was set to close Sept. 17, the city decided to end the season early.

Those registered in programs this week will receive credits, while Artillery Park Pool pass holders will get a one-week extension.

The closure also cancels the popular Doggie Dip event. The on-site splash pad will remain open until Sept. 15.
