Six-week Citizens Police Academy offers behind-the-scenes access to local policing work.
Kingston Police is inviting residents to apply for its returning Citizens Police Academy, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how the service operates.
The six-week program begins May 14 and runs Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until June 18. Participants will take part in presentations, demonstrations and interactive sessions covering a wide range of policing areas.
Topics include organizational structure, use-of-force training, traffic services, patrol operations, 911 communications, criminal investigations, forensic identification, emergency response, court services, intelligence and canine demonstrations.
Police say the goal is to help community members better understand policing practices, not to train participants to become officers.
The program is open to applicants aged 18 and older from diverse backgrounds. A free criminal record check is required. Space is limited to 25 participants, selected through a lottery system.
The application deadline is May 6. Organizers encourage early registration due to high demand.
