The investigation began in 2023 over a vehicle with mis-matched plates.
Gananoque Police officers observed a vehicle being operated on July 23rd of 2023, with license plates registered to a different vehicle.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop and drove at a high rate of speed, leading police to terminate the pursuit for safety reasons.
Investigators later identified the driver, who had been residing at a local motel. During a search of the suspect’s property, officers located a handgun and a substance later confirmed as fentanyl.
A warrant was issued, and on September 19, 2025, Gananoque Police were notified that the 48-year-old suspect was in custody with another service on separate charges.
The individual was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, flight from a peace officer, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm.
They remain in custody pending a show cause bail hearing.
