Frost warning issued for Kingston area — temperatures expected to hit zero tonight

Gardeners and farmers in the Kingston region are being urged to prepare for frost overnight.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a frost advisory Wednesday morning for Kingston, Odessa and the Frontenac Islands.

Temperatures are expected to drop to around zero degrees Celsius tonight into early Thursday.

Officials warn the cold could damage frost-sensitive plants and crops. Residents are being asked to cover plants, especially in frost-prone areas, and take steps to protect gardens and trees.

Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, which can lead to significant damage to crops.

Environment Canada encourages people to monitor forecasts and alerts as conditions can change quickly.

Severe weather can be reported by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting updates on X with #ONStorm.

The advisory is in effect for Kingston, Odessa and the Frontenac Islands.
