Frontenacs get even with Petes to split home-and-home set

Battaglia with a hat trick in Kingston's 9-1 win on Friday.

The Kingston Frontenacs responded in a huge way against Peterborough.

They fired 47 shots on the Petes in a 9-1 victory Friday night to split their home-and-home series.

2,852 at Slush Puppie Place saw the line of Jacob Battaglia, Tyler Hopkins, and Tomas Pobezal combined for 10 points on the night. Battaglia had four of the points including a hat trick.

The Flames draft pick says the team had a bit of chip on their shoulders after the first game.

Battaglia, Hopkins, and Pozebal were held off the scoresheet in Thursday's 5-2 loss in Peterborough.

Head coach Troy Mann says he liked what he saw from his team in Friday's game.

The Frontenacs (6-2-0-1) built a 6-0 lead after the first two periods. They had six shots rung off the post, four off the stick of Hopkins who had two goals on the night.

Mann says the team came out more aggressively than they did in the first game.

The Petes (3-4-0-1) found themselves in the penalty box often in the game. They were shorthanded nine times leading to two goals.

Peterborough also allowed a shorthanded goal of the five times (0-for-5) they had the man advantage.

Battaglia says he hopes they can built on the offensive output.

Andrew Kuzma (2 goals), Landon Wright, and Nolan Snyder also tallied goals for the Frontenacs. Adam Novotny had the lone goal for the Petes.

Matthew Minchak made 26 saves in his second career OHL start in net. Dylan Lee-Stack stopped 38 shots in the loss.

The next game for the Frontenacs is next Friday night when they host the Ottawa 67's.
