Some lakes are above average and are continuing to rise
Cataraqui Conservation has updated its Flood Watch as water levels remain high and more rain is on the way.
Between March 28 and 31, the region received 36 to 47 millimetres of rain—more than half a month’s worth. More rain is expected on April 2 and 3, with 20 to 40 millimetres possible. Freezing rain and thunderstorms could make conditions worse. Additional rain is also in the forecast for April 5 and 6.
Many creeks are flowing at 2.5 times their normal levels. Water managers are working to control outflows, but some lakes remain above average. The ground is already saturated, meaning more runoff into streams and lakes.
Widespread flooding is not expected, but low-lying areas will likely flood. Residents near affected lakes and rivers, including Loughborough Lake, Gananoque River, and Sand Lake, are advised to move items away from the water.
