First working at McDonald’s in Kingston, Napanee manager earns national award

Chris DeSousa was named the 2026 Outstanding Manager of the Year by McDonald’s Canada.

Napanee McDonald’s general manager is being recognized as one of the top restaurant leaders in Canada.

Chris DeSousa has been named a 2026 Outstanding Manager of the Year by McDonald’s Canada.

The award recognizes about 90 general managers across the country for their work, with this year’s awards placing a greater focus on community involvement.

DeSousa said he was proud to receive the honour, but considers it a team achievement.

DeSousa started working at McDonald’s in Kingston at age 15 and worked his way through several roles before becoming a restaurant manager in 2022.

He said the restaurant regularly supports local groups through donations and fundraising.

Napanee franchisee Todd Shea said DeSousa’s leadership extends beyond the restaurant. "Chris truly leads with an owner's mindset, taking pride in every detail and showing care for every single guest and team member," Shea said. "His passion is unmatched and he represents the McDonald's brand with so much care. Around here, we call him 'Mayor McChris' because of the incredible impact he makes through his leadership, ownership, and heart."

DeSousa said upcoming hospital day and the just past Alzheimer’s fundraising events will provide more opportunities for the restaurant and community to work together.

He said the award reflects the support of both his staff and the wider Napanee community.
