The South East Health Unit Board has approved the Appointment of External Advisors Policy, allowing the Medical Officer of Health/CEO or their designate to retain specialized support when needed.
These external experts may include legal counsel, financial advisors, auditors, engineers, or HR consultants. All must be appropriately licensed and operate at arm’s length from both the Board of Health and senior management.
The policy ensures that such appointments align with procurement guidelines and are subject to available budget.
The goal is to provide access to expertise while maintaining transparency and governance standards. The full policy is available in the Board package.
In addition, the Board approved a self-evaluation survey, which will be completed this fall. The survey provides members with an opportunity to reflect on their performance as a governance body and identify areas for growth.
The survey form is also included in the Board package for review and reference.
