Cataraqui Conservation has declared a Level 1 Low Water Condition across the Cataraqui Region, stretching from Napanee to Brockville and north to Newboro.
The alert was issued after July brought just 23 per cent of the usual rainfall. Most streams in the region are flowing below normal levels, with many hitting critical low water thresholds.
This is the first of three levels under Ontario’s Low Water Response Program and signals the start of a potential water supply issue. If dry conditions continue, officials warn the situation could worsen and reach Level 2 by early September.
Residents who rely on groundwater or draw water from lakes and streams are asked to voluntarily reduce water use. Suggestions include limiting outdoor watering, washing vehicles less often, and fixing leaks around the home.
Boaters are also advised to watch for hidden hazards in local lakes due to low water levels.
Cataraqui Conservation is monitoring the situation closely and encourages residents to report local low water concerns through their website to help track conditions. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
