Tobacco, marijuana, cannabis concentrate known as shatter, and other drugs plus edged weapons, cell phones, and cell phone accessories were seized.
Correctional Service Canada says contraband and unauthorized items worth nearly $300,000 have been seized at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.
CSC said staff intercepted multiple packages between Dec. 30, 2025, and Jan. 16, 2026, at the multi-level security federal prison. The seizures were the result of staff vigilance.
Items seized included tobacco, marijuana, cannabis concentrate known as shatter, and other drugs. Officers also found edged weapons, cell phones, and cell phone accessories. The total estimated institutional value of the contraband was about $291,171.
CSC says it uses several tools to prevent drugs and prohibited items from entering federal institutions. These include ion scanners and detector dogs used to search buildings, inmates, visitors, and personal property.
The agency says it is increasing measures to stop contraband from entering institutions to help maintain a safe and secure environment. CSC also works with police to investigate and take action against those attempting to smuggle items into prisons.
