Residents have been receiving messages threatening legal action if they don't comply.
Beware of fraudulent text messages claiming that you were caught speeding or running a red light by a traffic camera.
The City of Kingston issued a statement saying they have received calls from residents getting these messages.
The texts will contain links but no photos. The message threatens the recipient of legal consequences if they don't act immediately.
The City says this is a scam as they do not send text messages about traffic offenses. They say tickets for infractions are always mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Anyone who receives these suspected texts are asked to contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660, ext. 0.
