Big Brothers Big Sisters Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington is closing its doors for good.
The chapter will officially close on Oct. 31 after serving the community for over the last 50 years.
In a news release, BBBS KFLA says the decision was made in response to a changing community landscape and long-term sustainability.
They say social changes and reductions in both mentor and mentee participation in Kingston and surrounding areas led to a focus on group and school-based mentoring. Newer services have seen significant growth but the traditional one-to-one community-based model had proven to be difficult to maintain.
In response, Boys and Girls Club South East BGC South East say they will be providing their own individual and group mentoring programs, including one-to-one in schools, and one-to-one in BGC Clubs.
KingstonDaily.ca reached out to BBBS KFLA Executive Director Harold Parsons for a comment but didn't hear back prior to our deadline.
