The Napanee native collaborated with Simple Plan on a new single.
Napanee's very own Avril Lavigne has released a new song with Canadian rock band Simple Plan called Young & Dumb.
But what may come as a surprise to fans, this song is not considered Canadian.
Jon Pole, President of My Broadcasting Corporation, our parent company, explained what makes a song Canadian Content.
Pole shared this song is a perfect example of what's wrong with the system, which he says is archaic. It was made back in a time when studios were big buildings and people didn't collaborate outside of the studio.
Even though this song is by Canadian artists and mentions a Canadian town, because of the way it was produced and written, it's not classified as Canadian.
Pole says the system is a little bit flawed. Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams has been a big advocate for this.
As Pole said, it's time to start supporting Canadian Artists.
