A record-setting day for two Stone Mills Township firefighters at an international event in Erie, PA

Kevin Duncan and Lianne McAuley of the Stone Mills Township Fire Department finished first in the 50+ age category.

A pair of Stone Mills Township firefighters took on the world and set a record while doing it.

Kevin Duncan and Lianne McAuley along with Karim Byne were at the TFT Firefighter Challenge Championship Series in Erie, Pennsylvania last Saturday.

Duncan and McAuley participated in the tandem FD 50+ category and completed the course in 2:25.4, a new record that was previously held by the pair.

McAuley says performing the tasks during the course does take a physical toll but being able to meet firefighters from around the world outweighs any pain they endure.

Both Duncan and McAuley are in their 60s and continue to serve with the Stone Mills Township Fire Department.

Duncan says the goal for any firefighter is to try and complete the course in under two minutes, something he admits is tough for someone his age.

Both took part in another firefighting challenge earlier this year in Indianapolis and were able to qualify for the event in Erie.

McAuley says she and Duncan train a lot to prepare for these competitions.

Duncan explains what is involved in the course that they took part in.
