New citizens celebrated with family, friends and community members during annual ceremony at City Hall.
Fifty new Canadians were welcomed to the community during Kingston’s annual Citizenship Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Kingston City Hall.
The new citizens were welcomed by Mayor Bryan Paterson, Grandmother Kathy Brant, representatives from the office of MPP Ted Hsu, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and Judge Raina Sfeir.
Courtney Hall, the City of Kingston’s equity, diversity and inclusion manager, said becoming a Canadian is an important milestone.
She said the experiences, perspectives and contributions of the new citizens help strengthen the Kingston community.
The ceremony brought together the new citizens, their families and supporters to mark the occasion.
Following the ceremony, attendees took part in Kingston’s Intercultural Arts Festival.
The festival featured music, arts, food and traditions from different cultures, highlighting the city’s diverse and multicultural community.
The event gave the new citizens an opportunity to celebrate their Canadian citizenship with family and the wider Kingston community.
