2026 Kingston Municipal Elections: District 1 - Countryside

Vic Sahai, Jeff Scott, and Joseph Abreu are running to replace Gary Oosterhof who is not seeking re-election.

This is a series of profiles of the candidates running in this year's municipal election in Kingston.

Today, we are highlighting the candidates in District 1 - Countryside.

Countryside is one of two districts in the City of Kingston that is made up of mostly rural areas. Glenburnie, Joyceville, Kingston Mills, and Elginburg are just some of the communities that are encompassed in the Countryside district.

The Council incumbent, Gary Oosterhof, is not running for re-election and voters in Countryside will be electing a new representative.

There are three people vying to become the next Councillor in the district: Vic Sahai, Joseph Abreu, and Jeff Scott. Mr. Sahai and Mr. Abreu have responded our request for participation in our feature.

Mr. Scott did not respond to our request for an interview. He did represent Countryside on City Council for a term (2010-2014). Mr. Scott listed a number of priorities on his website. They include safer roads, preserving rural land, and fixing the Lasalle Causeway.

Kingston residents will be electing a new council on October 26.
