$100K going to help KHSC pediatric oncology from Hyundai Hope on Wheels

A cheque was delivered at a ceremony held at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday.

Kingston Health Sciences Centre is receiving a large donation for their pediatric oncology unit.

The Hyundai Hope on Wheels delivered a cheque for $100,000 to the hospital that will be used to support pediatric cancer research and care in the community. The funding comes from a portion of each Hyundai vehicle sold.

A ceremony was held outside Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday.

Head of the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and Dr. Laura Wheaton says cancer research has come a long way and this funding will allow them to do more.

One patient that has benefitted from that research was six-year-old Anderson Thoman. He was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma in May 2025 and has since been receiving oral chemotherapy at home.

Anderson's parents, Lindsay and Adam were at the cheque presention and Anderson as well as a couple of other patients got to put their handprint on the side of a Hyundai SUV.

Lindsay Thoman has nothing but great things to say about the pediatric cancer team at the hospital.

Anderson will continue to receive treatment until August of 2027.

Thoman says they drew a lot of inspiration from her son.

Wheaton says their department is a small group but it means they are able to get to know families like the Thomans very well.

Not only is Hyundai Hope on Wheels supporting pediatric cancer centres but are also looking to help families cover the costs of taking their children to these hospitals.

Thoman says her family live in the city so they are fortunate to not have to drive a long distance for treatment.
